Affogato Club with Billy “The Kid” Dib

May 21, 2015

Once again ‘The Chophouse’ hosted a stellar gathering of individuals as part of the bi monthly (well nearly) Affogato Club luncheons.

We were privileged to be joined by recent WBC featherweight contender Billy “The Kid” Dib.

Billy talked about the experience of travelling to Tokyo on May 1 to fight local WBC champ Takashi Miura for the same belt that Jeff Fenech unsuccesfully fought Azumah Nelson twice in 1991-92 and Lionel Rose unsuccessfully fought for in 1975. It was refreshing to meet a genuinely humble boxing champion especially in the aftermath of the “Farce of the Century” that was Mayweather vs Pacquiao. Billy also talked intelligently about his religious beliefs and the community work he does with kids on the street.

Former Parramatta, Nth Sydney, Northern Eagles, Wests Tigers, NSW & Australian rugby league player Michael Buettner was also in attendance at the Affogato lunch. Michael entertained us with stories of his footballing past and spoke about the work he now does with the NRL.

Winner of the Chilli Port was first time visitor Andrew Bell. Again Gibbo managed to miss out and questions are being asked as to whether he is actually placing his business card in the draw. His capable assistant Donna Peek advises me that there will be additional ‘Gibbo cards’ at the next lunch.
