Steve “Blocker” Roach joined us as our special guest at the Affogato Club lunch held at The Chophouse in February. Blocker was extremely entertaining as he recalled many old ‘war’ stories from his time as enforcer of the Balmain Tigers, NSW Blues and Australian Kangaroos. I think Blocker enjoyed the afternoon as much as our Affogato members as he spoke for nearly an hour. There were some old stories some of us may have witnessed and even heard before, but the way Blocker delivered them certainly made them sound as funny as ever.
We were also fortunate to have along Shane Flanaghan, head coach of the Cronulla Sharks. Shane spoke about the solid foundations he has been working on with his side in preparation for their first round clash with the Canberra Raiders. Shane was excited by the calibre of players he has at his disposal this year and spoke of some emerging talent such as young gun Jack Bird.
Lucky winner of the Chilli Port was Pete Lawson. All I can say is that we hope Pete isn’t so lucky next time – either that or we swap the port for red cordial.
